Using School Holidays for Quran Progress: Half-Term, Easter and Summer Plans
UK children get a week off at each half-term, around two weeks at Christmas and Easter, and about six weeks in summer. Used well, these breaks can move a child forward months in their Quran learning.
Half-term (one week): a mini-sprint
Add three or four extra short lessons in the week. Good half-term goals:
- finish one or two Noorani Qaida lessons;
- memorize one new short surah from our recommended order;
- master one Tajweed rule, such as Qalqalah.
Christmas and Easter (two weeks): a focused project
Pick one clear project: completing the Qaida, reading a whole juz aloud with a teacher, or memorizing a longer surah like Al-Mulk. Children love having something to "finish" before school restarts.
Summer (six weeks): the big leap
Summer is long enough for real change. Our 10-week summer intensive can be shortened to six weeks for the UK calendar. Build in a break week for travel or family visits.
Keep it feeling like a holiday
- Lessons in the morning, free afternoons.
- Rewards for milestones, not for minutes.
- Let children pick which surah to learn next.
- Family recitation in the evening instead of more screen time.
